Who We Are

Anne and Steve Halliwell have been involved in the art market in a variety of ways for many years, and bring to ID4Arts decades of prior professional experience.  In the 1990’s, they were frequent visitors to Russia, where Steve, drawing on his experience in finance at Citibank as well as his training in Soviet economics, was Chief Financial Officer of a US Government-sponsored investment fund.  Steve graduated from Wesleyan with Honors and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He holds the Certificate of the Harriman Institute for Advanced Studies of the Former Soviet Union at Columbia University. He has been a member of the Board of the Hudson River Museum since 2006.

Although trained in psychology, Anne focused during her many trips to Russia on art -- meeting artists, curators and museum directors in Moscow and St. Petersburg.  In 2000, she discovered and arranged to bring a major exhibition of previously forbidden works to the Brooklyn Museum.  The exhibition subsequently traveled worldwide.  She developed a practice representing artists and planning and organizing exhibits in the US. Anne did undergraduate studies at New York University, and her Master’s research with Robert Jay Lifton at Yale University. She is a member of the Advisory Board of All of US, an NIH genomic precision medicine research initiative.

In 2007, they together helped create a unique investment fund for post-war and contemporary American art in partnership with members of the Kemper family, founders of the Kemper Museum for Contemporary Art in Kansas City, Missouri. The Collectors Fund acquires art and circulates it to homes of investors over the life of the fund, allowing families to live with museum quality works.  The first fund is currently deaccessioning its final works, and a second fund recently closed to new members.

For any large collection of works – and for the insurers and banks that take risk on works of art – a universal identifier is an important step toward greater security and transparency.  That was the inspiration for ID4Arts.

ID4Arts draws upon technologies Steve saw at Citibank as part of his work on early cross-border electronic payments.  Over the past three years, Anne and Steve have worked with a Fortune 500 company and top RFID boutique firms on adaptations of RFID technology to meet the needs of the fine arts community. ID4ARTS partners with software companies specializing in installing and integrating RFID systems to meet client needs.
